Golfito Sportfishing

Golfito waters are the best for sportfishing in Central America, there are so many different varieties such as Big Snappers, Roosterfish, Amberjacks, Mackerel, Runners, Jacks and Marlin.

There is no other area in Costa Rica or in the world that encompasses Golfito.  Located inside the Golfo Dulce Bay, south towards the Panama border, and north along the coast to Drake Bay, it has the largest offshore/inshore saltwater sportfishing species combination found off the South Pacific coast.

Anglers who come for a Golfito sportfishing adventure can catch every offshore and inshore species that you will find in Costa Rican waters. There are more than a dozen different Snapper family species alone!

The Golfito fishing season for billfish usually peaks earlier than in the Central Pacific. Once the rains stop, by mid/end of November, anglers who travel to Golfito for a Costa Rica sportfishing charter can expect lots of Sailfish, along with a goodly number of Blue Marlin, both going 10 miles or so south outside Golfo Dulce, or north along the Pacific coast towards Drake Bay.

Black and Striped Marlin tend to come in a bit later. Yellowfin Tuna also arrive in Golfito earliest.

Golfito is famous for its incredible inshore fishing. The really big Snapper and Roosterfish are consistently caught here every year. The Southern Pacific, like the rest of the Pacific Coast has excellent offshore fishing for Sailfish, Marlin, Tuna, Dorado and Wahoo.

Anglers who fish in Golfito waters can catch Dorado 365 days. However, it is during the ‘Green Season’, from May to November, that yields the most consistent Dorado bite, as the rains bring plenty of debris from the swelling river mouths into the ocean. This is also the time when the biggest Dorado are caught in Costa Rican sportfishing waters. It is not uncommon to catch 20-30 and sometimes 40 Dorado in the 30-40lb range under floating logs and weed lines.

Come to Golfito and enjoy the Sportfishing vacations of a lifetime!
