Golfito Whale Watching Tour

There is no place like Golfito for whale watching. Costa Rica has the longest humpback whale season in the world. So if you are looking for an encounter with the ocean’s gentle giants, your odds are pretty good here.

The endangered humpback whale is the must-see species among whale watchers. There are three species of humpback whales that frequent the shores of Costa Rica: California Humpback Whales, Antarctic Humpback Whales, and North Atlantic St Lawrence Humpback Whales.
Pilot whales, blue whales, and Pseudo-Orca whales have also been known to frequent the Pacific Coast.
The Golfo Dulce is a tropical fjord stretching out between the Osa Peninsula and Piedras Blancas National Park, this shallow, protected bay is the perfect place for mother whales to raise their young calf after a twelve month gestation period before introducing them to the rest of the ocean world.  These warm tropical waters are an especially whalecome retreat for Antarctic whales. The Southern Antarctic Humpback Whales are the most frequently seen species on the Gulfo Dulce and they visit the Gulf from late July to late October.

What to bring?

There’s no special requirements for the Golfito Whale Watching Tour but we always recommend to bring the following items:

Sunglasses, a Hat, and Suncream

Keep your skin safe by applying suncream prior to your departure. A hat will also help to keep the sun off your face and out of your eyes, and can also guard against messy hair in the sea winds. Sunglasses are also suggested as the sun’s reflection on the water can be bright or glaring. A good pair of sunglasses will protect your eyes and ensure you are able to spot all those exciting wildlife sightings!

Your Camera

The memories you make on our Golfito Dolphin Tour are those you’ll want to remember and share with others. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture them. The camera you bring along is at your discretion, but many of our guests find that their phones or GoPro cameras work best. If possible, bring a waterproof covering/case, to guard against sea sprays.
